  • Two Pi Around the World I

Two Pi Around the World I

Landon Curt Noll (left) standing on the Prime Meridian and Gary Bengier (right) standing on the International Dateline holding a Pi sign from pizone.org. 2Pi: The number of radians in a circle / radio of the radius to the circumference. There was a very strong wind when we took the photo. At one point someone dropped the Pi signs and they flew across the ice destined for some place up north ... but a diving catch rescued them and we managed to bring them back to photograph a little rumpled. The golden pile marks the Geographic South Pole as of 2011 Jan 1. Landon's right foot (Landon is on the left) is resting on the actual South Pole as of the time this photo was taken on 2011 Jan 06 23:47:35 UTC. The Admundsen-Scott South Pole base is in the background. The still air temperature was about -29° C and the wind chill was approaching -41° C.
